Belleayre Opening, Turkey Day, and Pie-in-the-Face Sprints on Snow.

So, we've been getting a LOT of phone calls about when we are opening up. Yes, its true that Belleayre has been promising a hopeful opening since 11/14 and we've been pushing the date every weekend...but, honestly...we haven't had much cooperation with Homegirl, Mamma Nature. And what with Turkey Day around the corner, I know skiing, vaca, and pumpkin pies are certainly on the brain. God knows I've been dreaming about turkey, staring at my new set-up every night and hoping every night that I'll wake up to a blanket of white stuff. But when is it going to happen?!?!?! "Don't worry baby...soon, very soon," I tell my snowboard everyday. Because we all know, in classic Catskill form, it'll be 50 degrees one day and then the Arctic blast will blow in, in a matter of 20 hours and rock our little Belleayre World.

So, I've decided to just give everyone a number of answers to a lot of Frequently asked Questions, to hopefully hold everyone over and give everyone a little piece of mind- to pair with their little piece of T-day pumpkin pie.

So, in no particular order:

1) We will open ASAP. Albany (our higher-ups) has given us the thumbs up to open as early as we can (and blow snow!) and stay open as late as possible to make it a banner season for all.

2) It has to be 32 degrees F. for us to blow snow. aka...it has to be freezing out. I swear.

3) No, I'm sorry. We do not have any left over stock piles hiding anywhere, left over from last season. We used those on Memorial Day...and that was six months ago. yeah.

4) No, the lifts do not run if there is no snow.

5) Sure, you can come up and climb the trails with your gear and pretend that you are skiing. Whatever floats your boat.

6) Our "Snow-ca-china" doll is chanted to regularly, in hopes of snow.

7) Yes. The Snowsports hiring Clinic is still happening this Saturday and Sunday. Longhouse Lodge, 8am...bring some sneaks for Dry Land activities and tours...oh and loads and loads of calisthenics. We have drill sergeants shipping in for y'all, special. Turkey Day leftovers for lunch are encouraged...you'll get pumpkin pies in the face between the push-ups and the 1/4 mile sprints. (okay...I'm just kidding about the pies...and the drill sergeants.)

If any other concerns pop up, I'll address them accordingly. And let me ASSURE you...we are all incredibly antsy to get this party started. So, when WE GO- YOU'LL GO.

But, keep checking the site- every hour on the hour, if you want!!!!! And i hope everyone has a happy- and cross your fingers- snowy Turkey Day!!

Fall Festival Was FANTASTIC!

So, the 30th Annual was a lot of fun. Granted, it was a chilly weekend. Everyone was surprised at how quickly the temps dropped- but I had to keep reminding everyone," Hey! What kind of SKI PEEPS are you?!?!" As soon as I said that to a few folks, the smiles started up again. Everyone kept warm with Hot cider, delish' paella, and some dancing.

All the bands were jammin. Ratboy kicked it off and were EXTREMELY entertaining. They had a great sound and really pumped up the festival's start. Blues Maneuvers had a great, packed crowd and played all the local faves. Then...up from Brooklyn, Kara Suzanne and the Gojo hearts performed for the late-stayers, trying to keep warm, as the temps plummeted to the low thirties. brr. But...THEY were steamy- and that Kara Suzanne, as one admirable passerby stated, "was one tall, gorgeous, drink of water." Plus- they gifted me a few awesome CDs. sweeeet!

Sunday, the sun came out! Everyone loved the Saints of Swing! Renee Bailey's Star Spangled banner was beautiful... she wails, man. Love her. Next up, Detour... an awesome mid-day set. Tons of people were dancing and hanging out in the Beer Garden. I definately head-banged to their Teenage Waistland cover- like a rock star.

And then....The Trapps. ooooooooo, the Trapps. No words can describe. Just know that our department bought three copies of their current album. (and we are broke and prefer free stuff!)
They ROCK.

The Craft vendors were great...and the Zipline was so much fun. Check out the pick of the Beast on the Zipline. It gives you an idea of the fun we like to have up here at Belleayre... (come up anytime!)

Thanks to everyone for coming out. Make sure you mark your calendars for our Tap into Winter Party on our Tentative Opening Date of November 14th. More fun to be had!!!!!!!

Oh yeah- PS... it snowed here last week. So, get ready- it's coming!

Ladysmith Black Mambazo Concert this Saturday Night!

I  can't wait for this Saturday night! Picture the Overlook Lodge at dusk, a warm summer breeze, and then... the vibrating harmonies of one of the most celebrated  Traditional South African performing groups EVER. Talk about a Spiritual experience...

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is going to be incredible. I have been sure to check out their performances on their website (www.mambazo.com) and was so impressed to learn that they have performed with a myriad of talented artists; Paul Simon, Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlin, Josh Grobin, and Pete Seeger. Grobin has stated, "I've been a fan of theirs for as long as I can remember. Their sound is just magical."

"Magical," I can guarantee. It's an easy equation. LadySmith Black Mambazo + Sprawling Mountain locale of Belleayre Mountain + affordable and family, friendly cost = MAGIC.

Check out www.belleayremusic.org for tix and further info. Gates open at 6pm. Bring your lawn chairs and expect goosebumps (and possibly tears!) from the existential musical performance of these brilliant men.

A little Summa' time action for everyone!

So, welcome to the BELLEAYRE BLOG-O-RAMA! We are up and 'adem, ready to provide you with all the latest and greatest ways to keep tabs on us, up here in Highmount, New York. Even without snow- we all know how to have a good time! I know that all mountain goers and snow lovers have been at a loss these past summer weeks, dreaming about the winter mountain they all know and love. Soooo, we have been working our tails off up here, to give any and all reasons to make the trip- all year long!

Come up and see a concert this summer! Take an Aqua School Specialty workshop this summer! Have a BBQ at the Belleayre Beach. Hike...Kayak...Fish! Go ahead and even bring your snow gear, put it on and stand on the grass, pretending to make turns down the hill ( if you are in that much of a snow withdrawl)!
